You must bring a physical photo ID to vote. Examples of ID to bring on the day are:

• Passports
• Driving licences
• Concessionary travel passes
• Blue Badges
• Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) cards
• Ministry of Defence identity cards

If you do not have any of the accepted IDs listed, you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate. You need to apply by 5pm on Tuesday 28th April.

Don’t worry if you’ve misplaced your polling card. You don’t actually need it to vote as long as you have your ID.

There are several ways to have your say. This helps people with different needs or health conditions. You can apply for a postal vote to skip the trip to the polling station. The deadline for postal votes are 5pm on Tuesday 21st April. You can choose a proxy vote. This lets someone you trust vote on behalf of you. The deadline for proxy votes are 5pm on Tuesday 28th April.

Polling stations are designed to be accessible. Staff are there to help with any extra needs. You can ask for large-print ballot papers. You can also use tactile devices if you have a visual impairment. Let us know if you feel you need any reasonable adjustments at the polling station on the day. 

You are also welcome to bring a friend or family member to help you.

The list of candidates standing for election is now available to view.

For the May 2026 elections, the count is taking place on Friday 8th May so any results won't be available until at least 12 noon the following day. If there are any recounts the results might be published a bit later on in the day.
