The placement and control of hoardings on our streets are regulated by the Highway's Act 1980 (section 169).
You usually see hoarding around construction sites advertising the new developments or the building contracter's services.
All hoarding placed on the public highway must be authorised by the council and a licence issued to the provider.
We will consider the implications of the provision of a hoarding at the requested location to ensure that it does not:
- represent a danger to the highway user
- cause unnecessary obstruction to the free flow of traffic (vehicular and pedestrian)
- conflict with other planned works or events
