Homes for Ukraine

Homes for Ukraine Scheme

The Homes for Ukraine scheme was launched in March 2022, offering a route to the UK for Ukrainian refugees able to match themselves with a sponsor in this country.

Sponsors register their interest via the Government’s website but must find for themselves the Ukrainian family or individual hoping to resettle in this country.

Local councils are responsible for running checks on sponsors and the accommodation they offer to ensure that placements are safe and suitable. They also have a responsibility to help the newly arrived Ukrainian citizens adapt to life in their new home.

Harrow Council is working closely with a number of local agencies, whose expertise is helping to ensure that sponsors and newly arrived citizens are well supported through this process. Thanks especially to the Romanian and Eastern European Hub, Two Generations and Voluntary Action Harrow for their work in this area.

If you’re considering becoming a sponsor, please make sure you’re as informed as possible about the process and the things that will be expected of you. You can find a comprehensive list of frequently asked questions about the scheme on the Government’s website.

Elsewhere on our pages you’ll find advice on things to consider before becoming a sponsor and more frequently asked questions covering the parts of the process managed by Harrow Council, with links through to further sources of support and advice.
