Corporate equality objectives

The Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) was introduced as a result of the Equality Act of 2010. It requires public bodies to prepare and publish one or more equality objective. It began on 6 April 2012 and must occur at least every four years.

Our Corporate Equality Objectives were first developed and published in 2012. After in depth consultation with our residents, service users, stakeholders, partners and employees, they were reviewed and agreed by Cabinet in March 2016.

Corporate Equality Objectives

  • An inclusive workforce that feels valued, respected and reflects our community
  • An improved understanding of our communities to ensure services are fair, equitable and accessible to all and reduce inequality
  • Promote and celebrate the diversity of our borough and foster community cohesion

The objectives support the Harrow Ambition Plan. Our performance is measured by a number of measures identified by directorates through their service planning process.

A quarterly progress report is produced and presented to the Corporate Equalities Group and an annual report to the Performance and Finance Committee.
