The schools below are consulting on changing their admission arrangements for 2025 - 26.

The consultation for Avanti House will run from Monday 6 November 2023 to Monday 18 December 2023.

The proposed changes are as follows:

  • Oversubscription Criteria 6 - up to 15 Hindu children with a practising Hindu parent who do not meet the requirements in criteria 5. To be included in this category, a completed SIF certified by a representative of the parent’s temple must be submitted to the School by the closing date for applications (with the exception for in-year applications for which there is no closing date), in addition to the CAF submitted to the Local Authority. Children for whom a SIF is not received by the closing date for applications, and children falling into this category who do not achieve a place, will be included in the category below.
  • For clarity – there is no closing date for in-year admissions applications.
  • Waiting lists are held for the duration of the school year after which time parents and carers will need to reapply for their child.

The admissions authority invites comments on the proposed clarification for in-year admissions, the amendment to oversubscription criteria 6 and the clarification on the process for waiting lists for Avanti House Secondary School.

Admissions and Oversubscription Criteria

  • Replaced with' Catholic looked after' and 'previously looked after children'.
  • Removal of 'other looked after children' and 'other children who have been adopted or made subject to child arrangements orders, immediately after having been looked after'.
  • Added 'other looked after' and 'previously looked after children'.
  • Removal of 'Exceptional Need', The LGB will give top priority, within a criterion, to an application where compelling professional written evidence, from a medical consultant or senior social worker, is produced at the time of application of a social or medical need of the child or family which can only be met at this school.

Non-Catholic Siblings
Parents of children within criteria 8 must be aware that younger siblings will not qualify under criteria 2, as priority will be given to Catholic children.  Non-Catholic sibling applicants will be placed in criterion 8.

Replaced with 'within each of the categories listed above, the following provisions will be applied in the following order'.

  1. Where evidence is provided at the time of application of an exceptional social, medical or pastoral need of the child which can most appropriately be met at this school, the application will be placed at the top of the category in which the application is made.
  2. The attendance of a brother or sister at the school at the time of enrolment will increase the priority of an application within each category so that the application will be placed at the top of the category in which the application is made after children in (i) above.

Reception Class Application 2025/2026

  • Removal of 'it is very unlikely that your child will be offered a place'.
  • Replaced with 'this may affect your child’s chance of being offered a place'.

Interpretation of Terms used in the Admission Policy and Oversubscription Criteria

  • Removal of 'Looked after child' has the same meaning as in S.22 of the Children’s Act 1989, and means any child in the care of a local authority or provided with accommodation by them (e.g. children with foster parents at the time of making an application to the school). Included in this definition are those children who appear (to the LGB) to have been in state care outside of England and who ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
  • Adopted means a child who has been adopted from care and whose parents can give proof of this status.
  • Replaced with a 'looked after child' has the same meaning as in section 22(1) of the Children Act 1989, and means any child who is (a) in the care of a local authority or (b) being provided with accommodation by them in the exercise of their social services functions (e.g. children with foster parents) at the time of making an application to the school.
  • A 'previously looked after child' is a child who was looked after, but ceased to be so because he or she was adopted, or became subject to a child arrangements order or special guardianship order. Included in this definition are those children who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England and who ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
