What to do when someone dies
A relative, friend or solicitor of the deceased should inform the council tax office about the death of an occupant of a property as soon as possible.
You need to tell us:
- The name of the deceased persons and the date they died;
- The address where they lived
- The names and addresses of any executors to the will of the deceased person; and
- The name and address of an appointed solicitor if you wish the council to deal direct with a solicitor.
If you do not have all of the information it can always be provided once it is known. To provide the information to us please fill in the council tax general enquiry form.
For information on who will become responsible for the council tax, and the discounts and exemptions available, please go to the further info section.
