Help influence the design of new development in Harrow
|This consultation has now ended.|
Harrow Council is consulting on a draft Design Code which will provide design guidance for new development in Harrow. This is your opportunity to assist in shaping the draft design guidance.
The Government and the Mayor of London have identified the need to increase the development of housing on small sites (less than 0.25ha). The quality of the design of such developments is important to ensure they are appropriate for the area.
To assist in achieving high quality design of small site developments, Harrow Council has prepared a draft Small Sites Design Code.
The purpose of the Design Code will be to provide design guidance for development on small sites within the borough. It seeks to support and provide further guidance to policies in the current Harrow Local Plan (and any subsequent Plans) as well as the London Plan 2021. Specifically, Policy H2: Small Sites of the London Plan (2021) indicates that boroughs should pro-actively support well-designed new homes on small sites, in order to significantly increase the contribution of small sites to meet London’s housing needs.
The draft Design Code provides Harrow-specific design guidance, reflecting Harrow’s character and context as identified in the Harrow Characterisation Study 2021.
Once finalised, the draft Design Code will be adopted as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) to the Harrow Local Plan.
Please provide us with your views
The draft Design Code is intended to provide guidance to applicants, designers, developers and residents, with respect to the design of new development on small sites. The Council is therefore seeking input into the draft document from stakeholders and public to shape its final form prior to adoption.
