Free digital newspapers, magazines, eBooks and eAudiobooks

Below you'll find a range of services which provide free access to digital newspapers, magazines, eBooks and audio books which can be downloaded onto your PC, tablet and smartphone.

The services can be viewed via a web browser or you can install them onto your mobile device via an app such as iOS Apple app store, Android Google Play Store and Kindle Fire Amazon store

Pressreader

Gives you unlimited access to 1000s of digital newspapers and magazines from around the world so you can stay connected to the stories you love on your PC, tablet or smartphone.

With PressReader you can:

  • download titles to read offline using the apps, or read titles instantly online on the web
  • get enhanced digital replicas of your favourite newspapers that look just like the printed version, or you can read using a screen-friendly format
  • read past issues of titles
  • Simply sign in with your membership number and PIN and register for an account. Once signed in you will have access for 30 days before needing to sign in again.

Overdrive            

Provides access to thousands of eBooks, eAudiobooks and digital magazines for adults, teens and children.

  • Magazines Overdrive now provide a huge range of digital magazines. All you old favourites from RB Digital have moved across plus many new titles to discover.
  • Lucky Day is a special collection of highly popular titles of eBooks and eAudiobooks that are available on a first come, first served basis. All can be borrowed for 14 days but can not be renewed and are automatically returned at the end of loan period. The list of titles will change as books are returned to the collection, so check back often.
  • Language courses - learn from a wide range of languages
  • Kids' Collection visit the kids' collection for picture books and 'readalongs' for under 5s, a wide range of children's fiction, and homework help arranged by subject. There are special collections promoted on a regular basis. This is particularly helpful if you are unsure what you might want to read as they are carefully chosen by library staff.
  • Teen Collection visit the teen collection for a wide range of fiction and study guides for young adults. Special collections are promoted regularly so if you need help to find your next good read, information on social issues and wellbeing, 
  • Graphic novels and comics a wide range of graphic novels, manga and comics available to download. Full collection of Marvel Comics plus DC Comics and Vertigo.
  • Libby App A state-of-the-art reading experience. Libby’s ebook reader makes it easy to customize how you read - online or offline. You can adjust an ebook's font size, book layout, and lighting. As you read, you can also add bookmarks, create notes and highlights, and define words.

Overdrive Help

You don't have to have any special software as you can read or listen through your browser, or download the Libby app to enjoy your eBook or eAudiobook offline.

Borrowbox

Borrowbox provides access to 1000s of eAudiobooks and eBooks which can be downloaded on your computer or mobile device.

Check out the specially curated collections from the Discover page where you will find recommendations for all ages, trending titles, new releases, bestsellers, award winners and most popular titles.

  • To borrow items click 'Sign in' or 'My Account' and enter your library card details
  • Read on your computer or download the BorrowBox app in the Apple Store or Google Play Store to read on your phone or tablet.

uLibrary is a new service for Harrow Library members giving access to thousands of eAudiobooks from Ulverscroft.
