Understanding Local Risks in Harrow

Understanding the hazards and threats we may face helps us prepare for emergencies more effectively.

The National Risk Register identifies risks that could affect the UK as a whole, and this information feeds into the London Risk Register, which looks specifically at risks that could impact the capital.

Harrow Council works closely with the London Resilience Partnership, which brings together public services, businesses, and community organisations to help London prevent, manage, recover from, and learn from disruption. Led on behalf of the Mayor of London, the Greater London Authority, London Local Authorities and London Fire Brigade, the partnership ensures London is able to adapt, respond and continue to thrive.

Major Risks That Could Affect Harrow

Some of the most significant risks highlighted in London and local assessments include:

  • Flooding (surface water, river flooding, and groundwater)
  • Major fires
  • Pandemics and infectious disease outbreaks
  • Major disruption to utilities (power, water, gas or telecommunications)

These risks do not mean emergencies will happen, but they help us plan and ensure the borough is as resilient as possible.
