How is the Council Tax worked out?
When we are working out the charge for Council Tax, we first work out the charge for a band D property. The charge for the other valuation bands is worked out as a proportion of the Band D amount. Your home is placed in one of eight valuation bands based on its value on 1 April 1991. The Valuation Office Agency, which is part of His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC), determines which band your home is in.
