Becoming a childminder

The role of a registered childminder is both rewarding and challenging.

Are you are passionate about making a difference: building strong foundations and shaping a childs early years in order for them to thrive, be confident and prepare them for school? Then come along to our pre-registration meeting to find out more. Our pre-registration meeting will equip you with information to make an informed decision whether this is the right career for you.

Once you have attended the pre-registration and you have decided to pursue a career in childminding you must attend the 'Preparing to work in Home-based Childcare HBCA' course. This is a level 3 CACHE (Council for Awards in Care, Health and Education) qualification. These are held each term. The course lasts 14-weeks and takes place one evening a week. It provides you with all the information and tools you need to become a childminder.

An initial verbal and written assessment will need to be completed at Stanmore College before you are accepted onto the course.
