A notice of marriage: the procedure
It is a legal requirement to give a notice of marriage or a civil partnership prior to your marriage or civil partnership ceremony. Your notice will be publicly displayed for 28 days, after which the authority for your marriage or civil partnership can be issued, unless further investigation is required by the Home Office, in which case this could be extended to 70 days.
When the notice period is complete, the marriage or civil partnership is authorised, and the ceremony can take place at any time over the next 12 months at the venue stated. If the venue is changed for any reason, you will need to give a new notices. This will incur additional fees.
