The council’s ongoing crackdown on anti-social behaviour (ASB) and reassurance work to keep Harrow safe continued with another two successful days of action in South Harrow and Stanmore.
- Joint multi-agency partnership tackle local issues
- More than 40 bags of rubbish cleared including a knife and syringe in South Harrow
- Lots of patrols and engagements to help make locals feel safe
The council’s community safety team, with partners from the Metropolitan Police, Harrow Litter Pickers, and London Fire Brigade, carried out targeted patrols and engagement at a number of locations including South Harrow station and the market, Stanley Road Arches and Roxeth Park.
Separately in Stanmore, officers worked with students and staff at Stanmore College to educate pupils. Several arrests were made by the police and council teams dealt with traffic offences and issued fines for breaches of public space protection orders.
These joint operations help focus on local issues and community concerns which include illegal parking, street drinking, and fly-tipping. Officers engaged with residents and businesses offering advice and reassurance on community safety issues including violence against women and girls (VAWG) and conducting visible safety patrols.
Cllr Pritesh Patel, Cabinet Member for Cleaner Streets and Public Safety, said:
“Residents want a cleaner and safer borough - and we’re delivering this through our ongoing days and nights of action. Each one is making a difference to residents and the wider community.
“Thanks to the support of our partners, we’ve engaged with hundreds of residents and businesses - listening to their concerns, taking action and providing reassurance on key community safety issues like violence against women and girls.
“We know there is still more to do, and we’re committed to continuing our work to restore pride in Harrow.”
In South Harrow last week, officers carried out blue Badge fraud checks and illegal parking; licensing breaches; more than 40 bags of rubbish were collected by Harrow Litter Pickers; a new venue launch for Conversation Café at Roxeth Library and the Metropolitan Police signing up more than 30 businesses to Met Engage.
The days and nights of action are one of 30 flagship actions set out in the corporate plan to restore pride in Harrow and falls under the priority for a borough that is clean and safe.
