Won’t pay your parking fine? We’ll take your car away

Car being towed

We’re cracking down on drivers who dodge penalties and clog up our streets - and we’re not messing around. If you don’t pay your parking fine, you could lose your car.

  • Council clamps down on unpaid parking fines
  • New service targets repeat offenders and foreign vehicles
  • 36 cars removed in first two weeks operation

Our new towing service has been in action since Tuesday 7 October where so far 36 vehicles have been towed away to our new pound facility with 23 drivers paying in full to retrieve their car – all totalling £8,330.00

This tougher enforcement targets repeat offenders, illegally parked vehicles, and foreign-registered cars that slip through the cracks. These drivers aren’t just breaking the rules - they’re making our streets look messy, unsafe, and harder to navigate for everyone else.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • If your car gets towed you’ll need to pay £280 plus your outstanding PCN to get your vehicle back.
  • After 24 hours,  you’ll be charged an extra £55 per day.
  • Still ignoring fines? You could lose your parking permit too

Cllr David Ashton, Cabinet Member for Finance and Highways, said:

“Like our residents, we’ve had enough of inconsiderate parking. It’s unfair, it’s unsafe, unfair for others who need a space and makes our streets unsafe and untidy. So we’re taking action by targeting repeat offenders who fail to pay their fines. From now on, if you ignore a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN), you could say goodbye to your vehicle. It’s part of our commitment to putting residents first and making our roads cleaner and safer.”

PCNs start at £90 and can rise to £160 depending on the offence - but you can still get a 50% discount if you pay quickly. Don’t wait. Pay (or challenge) your fine.
