Safe, secure and compliant: regulatory notice lifted on council homes

We’ve stepped up our social housing improvement programme to keep our tenants safe in their homes.

This week, the social housing regulator officially lifted a notice against London Borough of Harrow following water risk assessments and electrical safety issues identified in April 2023. Harrow has inspected the electrics of 4,960 homes and carried out water inspections for 468 blocks since then. 99.7% of all homes now have valid Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) and 100% of homes have had water risk assessments.

Cllr Mina Parmar, Cabinet Member for Housing, said:

“This decision recognises the hard work of everyone involved and our commitment to putting residents first. We are stepping up investment to improve housing conditions and I look forward to seeing even more progress in making Harrow’s homes fit for the future.”

Tenants are already seeing the benefits of a £3million homes improvement programme across the six key areas of compliance, alongside significant investments in kitchens and bathrooms, and plans are in place to find lasting solutions to tackle damp and mould in homes.

David McNulty, London Borough of Harrow Director of Housing, said:

“This is a positive step forward in our work to improve housing in Harrow. We know there is more to do, and we are focused on making sure every resident has a safe home.”
