£3M transformation brings Council properties to life!

Two harrow residents in their kitchen

Kitchens and bathrooms to be upgraded over 2 years. A major upgrade of council homes is well underway thanks to a £3m investment.

Council tenants are starting to see the benefits of our £3million homes improvement programme, as we tackle overdue upgrades and longstanding repair work.

We know how much these repairs matter and while some are still waiting, we are steadily working our way through them. Alongside repairs we've replaced 262 kitchens and 114 bathrooms, with more work to come.

Every kitchen and bathroom delivered is as unique as the people living in the homes. The new additions were designed by experts and approved by tenants. Ahead of the remodels, tenants attended design appointments where they selected their kitchen unit styles and colours, wall tiles, flooring, and the finishing touches including handles and paint colours.

Faisal, Pinner Tenant said:

“I love my new kitchen and bathroom. The builders have done a really great job.

“Being given the option to choose from the types of flooring, units and wall colours has allowed me to add my personal touch – this is what makes it feel like home. I can’t wait to have people over again and cook in my brand-new kitchen!”

Cllr Mina Parmar, Cabinet Member for Housing, said:

It’s wonderful to see families enjoying their new kitchens and bathrooms, designed with their input along the way.  We know we still have more improvements to make, and by investing £3million, these upgrades are helping tenants feel proud to call their council property their home.”

This is one of 30 Flagship Actions set out in the Corporate Plan to restore pride in Harrow. Within this are three values – to put residents first, a borough that is clean and safe, and a place where people are supported.

This programme is also helping the local economy, by using local suppliers. Buildtrust Ltd is a Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) based in Harrow that successfully won the contracts to carry out the works.
