Today we hosted a special event for our Ukrainian community at VUE Harrow to celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day.
The afternoon was a heartwarming opportunity to connect, celebrate culture, and watch the movie Mavka:The Forest Song. Guests spent time sharing stories, making new friends, and celebrating their heritage.
To show solidarity with Ukraine, we invited Ukrainian guests, their sponsors, and friends to join us in celebrating the country’s sovereignty.
Cllr Janet Mote, Cabinet Member for Community and Culture said:
“What a wonderful event it was to bring together the Ukrainian community and their hosts to celebrate their culture and independence. It was fantastic to see everyone connecting, sharing their traditions, and enjoying the film Mavka: The Forest Song.
“Moments like this remind me why I’m proud to live in such a welcoming borough. Through the Homes for Ukraine programme, we continue to help people feel supported and at home here in Harrow.
“My thanks go to our partners for making this possible, and to VUE for hosting a film that resonates with diverse audiences.”
As part of the council’s Homes for Ukraine scheme, this celebration is one of many ways we support families settling into life in Harrow. Since the scheme launched in March 2022, over 400 sponsors in the borough have opened their homes to welcome more than 500 people who fled the war. While this has made a significant difference, there is still a pressing need for more sponsors. By opening your home, you can provide a safe haven for families seeking refuge.
