Upskilling residents and making more buildings energy efficient

In next of feature of our corporate plan, we focus on priorities around supporting those in need and a clean borough.

In February, cabinet agreed our next set of flagship actions. In it, they’ve agreed to help people gain digital and employment skills.

This year we’ll help more than 600 learners gain digital and employment skills to help them further their careers. Digital skills are more important than ever - and we’re making sure no one is left out. Last year we helped more than 400 Harrow residents enhance their digital skills through our Learn Harrow programme. They’re now more confident online, more connected and live more independent lives.

We’re also making better use of our council buildings to ensure that are utilised better, and we’ll be making 20 more of schools more energy efficient with solar panels and heat pumps. These are great for the environment and help cut carbon emissions and energy costs.

Cllr Norman Stevenson, Cabinet Member for Business, Employment and Property said:

“It’s an exciting time for Harrow if you’re looking for new skills and employment. We’re putting residents first through our Learn Harrow service – and we’re going to help even more people gain new skills which will help further their careers.

“Our offer of support extends to our communities where we’ll look at how volunteer groups and communities can make better use of our buildings. I’m also pleased that we’re going to help more of our schools become energy efficient by installing solar panels and heat pumps.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing these delivered for our residents.”
