It was an extra special summer party at the Firs on 30 May as they celebrated a ‘Good’ Ofsted rating.

The local children’s home run by the council supports children with special needs. The Firs includes sensory rooms, personalised bedrooms and a specially designed garden that children love. Parents describe it as a second home for their children where children feel safe, happy and supported.

At the summer party, the Mayor, Cllr Anjana Patel joined in the festivities with Cllr Hitesh Karia, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services. They spent time speaking with parents, children and staff to learn about the vital support the home offers. The Ofsted Report praised staff for their skills and compassion giving children at the safety, care and support they need

Cllr Hitesh Karia, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said:

“It’s fantastic to visit The Firs for their summer event this year. This children’s home provides excellent care for those with learning disabilities. I spoke to staff and parents, and it’s been described as a ‘second home’ for their children. It’s also been inspiring hearing from those who have gone on to thrive as adults.

“I’m proud that we’ve received a ‘good’ Ofsted rating, recognising our staff’s dedication, hard work and professionalism to deliver a quality service and nurturing environment for our children in care. We’ll keep building on this to put residents first, give children the best start, and support families in need of help.”
