£1.2m investment to support domestic abuse survivors which includes new support provider

This week London Borough of Harrow commissioned a new domestic abuse support service.

Cranstoun, who offer specialist expertise in supporting people experiencing domestic abuse, will provide vital support for survivors of domestic abuse and their children.

It comes as the council invests £1.2 million into the service over the next 3 years. It will ensure people who suffer from domestic abuse can access help, support and refuge. The service, which launched on 1 May, includes:

  • Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) Service
  • Outreach support; providing support, advice and advocacy for survivors and their children.
  • Victim/Survivor support programmes
  • Safe accommodation, refuge provision and floating support
  • Single point of contact support

Councillor Anjana Patel, Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Community Safety said:

“Domestic abuse is traumatic for victim-survivors. Everyone has a right to feel safe and have a safe place to go to for support.

“I am pleased to welcome Cranstoun as Harrow’s new domestic abuse support service provider. Tackling domestic abuse is a key priority for us. We will continue to do everything we can to support those in need and put our residents first by providing support and refuge from domestic abuse.”

Maria Cripps, Assistant Director for Domestic Abuse Services at Cranstoun said:

“We’re pleased to be delivering this service in Harrow. We already work across London supporting victim-survivors of domestic abuse and this new work in Harrow will allow us to reach more survivors of domestic abuse and provide them with the comprehensive support they need to rebuild their confidence, independence and ensure their safety.

“Through this service we will provide direct support to victim-survivors and also provide safe accommodation as well. We will work closely with the council and other local partners to ensure that the people who we work with get all the support they need.”
