The deadline to register to vote is midnight Tuesday 16 April.
If you're not on the electoral register, you have just under two weeks to register to vote in time for the Mayor of London and London Assembly elections on Thursday 2 May.
It only takes five minutes and all you need is your National Insurance number. Remember, if you have recently moved address or changed your name, you will need to register to vote again.
If you have already registered, you will soon receive your polling letter (also known as a poll card) which will tell you how you have opted to vote, when to vote and if voting in person, which polling station to go to. You can only vote at the polling station location in your letter. You can also check your polling station online by entering your postcode.
If voting in person, you must bring photo ID with you to the polling station. You do not need to bring your polling letter as well, but it does make it easier for the polling station staff to find you on the electoral register if you do.
If you have not yet received your polling letter, you can double-check that you're registered to vote by emailing elections@harrow.gov.uk
The deadline to apply for a postal vote in time for the May elections is also fast approaching. If you choose to vote by post, ballot papers will be sent directly to your address. Registering for a postal vote is quick and easy to do online.
The latest you can register to vote by post in time for these elections is 5pm on Wednesday 17 April.
Kim Wright, Constituency Returning Officer for Brent and Harrow and Chief Executive of Brent Council, said:
“The elections in May are drawing closer and closer, and time is running out for those not yet on the electoral register to register to vote in time for these elections.
“If you’re not sure whether you’re registered, please do check while there is still time. Your vote matters. Don’t lose it.
“If you are registered, you should receive your polling letter soon. This will tell you how you have chosen to vote and if voting in person, which polling station to go to.
“Please do take note of the details as your polling station may have changed since the last time you voted. Remember, you’ll need to bring your photo ID to the polling station as you won’t be able to vote without it.”
If voting in person for the May elections, you must show approved photo ID. You will be able to use expired ID if you are still recognisable from the photo, as long as it is still one of the approved forms.
If you do not have an approved photo ID, or you just want to be sure you are covered, you can apply for a free photo ID to vote (known as a Voter Authority Certificate) and the deadline to apply for this is 5pm on Wednesday 24 April.
