Pothole to perfect – £241K to fix Harrow’s roads

pothole pro machine in action

We’re rolling out new machines targeting potholes from Spring 2024.

  • £241,000 pothole programme approved;
  • Dedicated pothole squad to find and fix potholes quickly;
  • New machines to save money and fix more potholes in a day

Last night [Wednesday 24 January] cabinet approved £241,000 government funding for Harrow’s new programme for pothole repairs. A new pothole squad will be assembled by our highways contractor to ‘find and fix’ potholes quickly.

More than 1500 potholes were repaired in the last 12 months – and now with these new machines, and pothole squad, we’ll be finding and fixing more potholes than ever before. This will complement the road resurface works for many more roads and footways which has already been planned in.

We’ve gone for innovative techniques that are great for the environment. There’s minimal waste, with all broken tarmac/materials taken away and recycled, as far as possible. This new approach will ensure we are making repairs that are long lasting, more sustainable, and reducing net emissions from our roadworks.

Cllr Anjana Patel, Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Community Safety said:

“This coming year, we’ll be repairing more roads and more quickly thanks to this new technology and pothole squad.

“A lot of work has already taken place over the last 12 months to fix some of our worst affected roads, but we know more needs to be done. We have been looking at new and innovative ways to deal with potholes you tell us about, and that we proactively find.

“I saw the new machines in action in Harrow and was really impressed to see how fast potholes are repaired. These repairs will be done at a high standard, longer lasting, save us money and help restore pride in Harrow.”
