Advertising guidelines

Guidelines for the Community NoticeBoard (CNB) and 'What’s On' Events

We’ll accept the following kinds of promotions:

  • Statutory information:  electoral register notices, notice of elections, planning applications etc.
  • London Borough of Harrow information and activities: councillor’s contact details, councillor's surgeries, council events etc.
  • Promotion of local community events. This includes information about events which are deemed to benefit to the local community. In addition, where the aims coincide with those of the borough.
  • Other information of interest to the local community that is not likely to cause offence to public taste and decency.  
  • Other considerations
  • The council’s decision on the display of posters is final.
  • Posters must adhere to the council’s equality and diversity policies and must not infringe anti-discrimination legislation.
  • Posters may be rotated to ensure fairness with regards to visibility.
  • Posters are not returnable and will be recycled once they are removed.
  • Display period is a minimum of 2 weeks.
  • Unauthorised material will be removed and destroyed.
  • We are unable to display
  • Posters that directly promote the adoption of faith or religion or religious causes. However church fêtes and the like are allowed.
  • Posters that advertise, promote or oppose any political parties or causes.
  • Posters advertising businesses.

While every attempt will be made to accommodate requests to display information, we reserve the right to refuse any material. This applies to material that falls outside of these guidelines or that the council, with discretion, regards as inappropriate.

Presentation and content

The council welcomes posters with:

  • Tidy and uncluttered layout, A4 size, preferably portrait.
  • A clear title and legible text.
  • The contact details of the person/organisation responsible for the content are clearly displayed.
  • Clear display of the admission fee, or indication that it’s free

Please note that if the activity/event you are advertising is open to children or vulnerable adults the event organiser is responsible for:

  • ensuring that safeguarding policies and procedures are in place
  • any necessary DBS checks have been carried out
  • you have appropriate insurance cover in place
