Supporting and valuing unpaid carers

Harrow Council recognise the valuable role that both young and adult carers play to support vulnerable people close to them across the borough. Carers are at the centre of our health and social care system. Carers make a major contribution that is equal to if not greater than planned care services.

Working as part of the Harrow Borough Based Partnership, council strategic commissioning will seek to further develop the support offer. This offer will meet local priorities identified in the Carers Strategy. Early identification of carers is essential. We need to understand needs through timely assessment and provide high-quality information and support. We aim to improve their quality of life, health and wellbeing.

Strategic commissioning will work in coproduction with social care teams, health and voluntary sector partners and local people. Taking in knowledge from all expertise to further develop services that support the diverse needs of adult, parent and young carers across Harrow.
