Massage and special treatment licence procedures
Planning
You will need to check with the council’s Planning department to confirm if planning consent or permission is required for the premises.
Publicity
You must display the site notice, contained in the information pack, on the premises for 14 days.
The notice must be displayed in a position where it can easily be seen and read by people passing outside the premises. View the public notice.
If you are applying to renew your licence (before the previous one has expired) a site notice does not need to be displayed.
Consultation
A photocopy of the application form and the drawings of the premises must be sent to the Metropolitan Police and Fire Authority:
METROPOLITAN POLICE |
FIRE AUTHORITY London Fire Brigade |
Any recommendations made by the Fire Authority will be sent to Public Protection (Licensing) team.
You will be notified of any items, which might require attention before the licence can be granted.
The Police will carry out checks on the applicant and staff to ensure no previous convictions or other matters give cause for concern.
Objections to a licence
We will consider an objection to a licence application from the Police, Fire Authority or member of the public.
If we cannot resolve the objections, we will arrange for the application to be considered by a licensing sub-committee of three councillors.
Refusal of application
An application may be refused on the grounds listed in section 8 of the London Local Authorities Act 1990.
Appeals
You may appeal against the refusal of a licence or against unreasonable conditions to the magistrates’ court within 21 days of being notified of our decision.
