Transition in Harrow
Last academic year (2016/2017) the Harrow Early Years team partnered with Children’s Centres (Early Support Hubs), schools and PVI’s (Private, Voluntary and Independent settings) in Roxeth and Roxbourne wards to develop and pilot a revised transition document and transition process (sent through Egress Secure mail). This process has been put in place for children transitioning from Harrow nursery/pre-school/childminder providers to school reception.
Note that the move to the revised transition document is recommended to our providers and not a requirement. Schools will also need to consider children who are not currently in a Harrow provider, for example who are aligned with Early Support Hubs/Children's centres or who are out of borough who may send information to schools in another format, choosing an alternative transfer of information.
The changes are as follows:
Revised Transition Document
Schools and PVI’s collaborated to create a transition document that could capture the essential child information, displayed in a format where schools could easily extract the much needed key information.
Sending information to recipient schools through secure email
The use of Egress secure mail is to create greater security around children’s information and comply with the Data Protection Act 1998 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR – May 2018), where there are clear guidelines on the responsibilities of those processing and controlling data.
Preparing parents/carers for transition
Parent/carer flyer for distribution, setting out what is expected of parents/carers and the types of questions they will be asked during the transition process. It also includes Early Support groups that are available.
After a successful pilot this is now being rolled out across all Harrow providers in the academic year 2017/2018.
