How to get a free Rapid COVID test

People who receive a positive Lateral Flow Test (LFT) result for Covid-19 – but do not have symptoms - will be required to self-isolate immediately and won’t be required to take a PCR test. People with COVID-19 can end their self-isolation after five five full days, as long as they test negative on an LFT on day 5 and day 6 and do not have a temperature.

The vast majority of people with positive LFT results can be confident that they have Covid-19.

Those with symptoms of Covid-19 should continue to get a PCR test as soon as possible.

You should also report your result, whether it is positive or negative, this allows public health officials to understand the true level of infection in our community.

Testing can help keep infection rates low. 1 in 3 people with COVID don’t show symptoms, so regular testing is essential to stop its secret spread. You should test even after being vaccinated.

Do lateral flow tests on days when you:

  • mix with people in crowded indoor places
  • visit someone who is at higher risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19

For full details about who should test, and when, visit the NHS website.

Sixteen local pharmacies are offering an assisted testing service, where someone will help you process your test.

You can also test at home, these test kits can either be picked up from pharmacies or delivered to your home by post. More information about home testing kits can be found on the NHS website.

There are also pop-up locations around Harrow where you can be tested. Please note that pop-up locations move around the borough on a weekly basis.

Many workplaces, schools and colleges also offer testing. Whether you test a home or a pharmacy, you’ll get a positive or negative COVID result in about 30-40 minutes.

Please remember to report your result at www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result. The information helps to reduce the spread of the virus and infection rates in the community as well as protect people at risk of severe infection.

You should do this every time you use a rapid lateral flow test kit and as soon as possible after you have the result.

When to book a PCR test instead of a Rapid COVID test:

- you have symptoms of COVID: a high temperature, a new continuous cough, a loss or changed to your sense of smell or taste.

If you have any symptoms of COVID you should book a free PCR COVID test instead.

Where can I get a Rapid COVID test?

Rapid COVID testing is available at 16 pharmacies throughout the borough.

Please note that if the days are greyed out on the calendar, it means that the booking slots for that day are fully booked or not yet available.

If you are using public transport, please be vigilant and follow social distancing guidelines wherever possible.
