Conservation areas and Article 4

Harrow on the Hill conservation areas

The Council adopted an overarching Harrow on the Hill Conservation Areas Supplementary Planning Document for all eight conservation areas within Harrow on the Hill in May 2008.

The purpose of the SPD is to provide a strategic overview of the issues affecting the conservation areas. The document provides guidance that assists in the preservation and enhancement of the area.

The SPD has eight appendices of conservation area appraisals and management strategies. They provide guidance on the special character and appearance of the conservation areas and ways to preserve and enhance character. Further details can be found in the table below. Permitted development rights in a conservation area already differ somewhat to those outside a conservation area.

The table also has maps of each conservation area. In the right-hand column of the table you'll see information on any Article 4 Directions that apply in that area. Article 4 directions withdraw the right to carry out certain works without planning permission.
