Conservation areas and Article 4

Stanmore and Edgware conservation areas

The Council adopted the Stanmore Edgware Conservation Area Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) in December 2013.

The purpose of the SPD is to provide a strategic overview of the issues affecting the conservation areas, and to provide guidance for their preservation and enhancement.

The SPD has six appendices of conservation area appraisals and management strategies. They provide guidance on their special character and appearance, and ways to preserve and enhance the character of these areas. Permitted development rights in a conservation area already differ somewhat to those outside a conservation area.

In the table below you'll find maps of each conservation area and information on any Article 4 Directions that apply in that area. Article 4 directions withdraw the right to carry out certain works without planning permission.
