Lights, culture, action! Harrow shortlisted for national theatre awards

theatre award

Harrow is taking centre stage after being named a finalist in the Great Placemaking Partner category at the Great British Theatres Awards.

The national recognition celebrates Harrow’s growing cultural scene and investment in projects that bring people together, support local talent and help town centres thrive.

At the heart of it all is Harrow Arts Centre, now one of north-west London's leading cultural venues which welcomes more than 280,000 visitors a year. The centre is home to live performances, creative classes, community events and opportunities for artists to boost their career. In 2025/26, audience numbers rose by 103 per cent, with 246 performances and events held.

HAC is also championing local creativity supporting touring productions such as Play Ball by Srishti Dance Creations, backing 25 local artists through residencies and commissions, and helping 54 emerging creatives through its Young Creatives programme.

But Harrow’s cultural story goes beyond traditional venues. Art Park Harrow has turned a former car park into a vibrant creative space for studios, exhibitions, performances and events.

Councillor Janet Mote, Cabinet Member for Community and Culture, said:

“This is fantastic news for Harrow and shows what can be achieved when you invest in the places and experiences that matter to our residents. This national recognition reflects the positive impact and important role culture plays in making Harrow a great place to live, work and visit.

I’ve seen it for myself having attended many programmes and events. From the success of Harrow Arts Centre to creative spaces like Art Park Harrow, we’re making sure residents have access to exciting, high-quality cultural experiences close to home, while creating opportunities for artists, businesses and communities across the borough.

Harrow joins Glasgow City Council, Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council and Lambeth Council on the shortlist. The winners will be announced at the Great British Theatres Awards ceremony on 2 November 2026.
