Thank You, Madam Mayor

Cllr Anjana Patel

On Wednesday, we say thank you to outgoing Mayor, Cllr Anjana Patel. It’s been a busy year for her, and as her mayoral year comes to an end, we look back at her time in office.

From the big civic events to the smaller community events, Madam Mayor has been to all corners of the borough championing her theme of kindness, caring and respect — attending more than 900 engagements she has witnessed these values in action from volunteers and carers to faith leaders, schools, and community groups working tirelessly to bring people together.

Some of her highlights include her Mayor Making Ceremony and Civic Service at St Mary’s Church, celebrating the work of volunteers at Harrow’s Heroes awards as well as to the Battle of Britain Service and Remembrance Sunday Parade. A big Civic highlight was celebrating the 1454 (Harrow) Squadron’s Freedom of Entry Parade marking 85 years of continuous service by cadets, staff and volunteers to Harrow.

Away from the civic events, Madam Mayor has made countless visits across the borough meeting hundreds of residents and community groups. From care homes, schools and children’s centres to meeting faith groups, volunteer groups and new businesses.  She fondly remembers the Pinner wheelbarrow race, taking part in the Great British Spring Clean, and representing Harrow at key events such as her recent visit to Buckingham Palace where she met King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Madam Mayor also proudly celebrated the borough’s 60th anniversary celebrations across the borough which included 60th themed celebration of the Firs and May Day at the Manor as well as a special celebratory event in the Town Centre.

Mayor, Cllr Anjana Patel said:

“What a year it’s been. I am honoured and proud to have served as Mayor and during a very special year celebrating Harrow’s 60th anniversary as a London Borough.  It has been a privilege to celebrate not just our history, but the spirit of Harrow.

Throughout my term, I have seen countless examples of kindness, care, and respect for one another. Harrow is special because the people of Harrow make it special by looking out for one another.

I’d like to thank everyone for their warmth, and respect shown in my Mayoral year, and for supporting my chosen charities this year. Every donation will help Samaritans and Via support those most in need.

As I go back to my role as a councillor, I do so with pride and confidence that Harrow will continue to grow stronger through kindness, caring, and respect. I will continue to support our residents and communities and would like to wish the incoming Mayor the very best.”

Thank you, Madam Mayor, Cllr Anjana Patel, for an incredible year of service!
