Working together for a greener Harrow

Green4Life Schools Charter

The Harrow Green4Life Schools Charter has officially launched across the borough.

The Charter, designed by Harrow primary school students, sets out clear pledges for both schools and families to take action for a greener future.

Through practical steps, such as switching off lights and equipment when not in use, improving recycling habits, and encouraging sustainable travel, participating schools are already helping to cut energy use and lower emissions across the borough. These small, consistent changes can add up to a significant impact over time.

Schools are also creating greener, more nature-friendly environments for pupils. This includes developing wildflower areas to support pollinators, planting trees and shrubs, and establishing eco-gardens where students can learn about biodiversity first-hand. Walk-to-school schemes and cycle routes are further helping to create a cleaner, safer, and healthier borough.

The Charter recognises that lasting change happens when the whole community is involved. That's why families are being encouraged to adopt simple actions at home - travelling more sustainably, saving energy, reducing waste, and being more mindful of nature in gardens or local green spaces. By working together, schools and families can play a vital role in building a greener, healthier future for Harrow.
