Free parking, Lionesses, holiday clubs and celebrating our community: A message from Leader of Harrow Council, Cllr Paul Osborn

Cllr Paul Osborn

In its first week of launching, it’s great to see lots of you making the most of your hour's free on-street parking.

I hope you're getting out and using it to shop in our high streets, eat in our restaurants or just to enjoy everything Harrow has to offer without worrying about the cost of parking.

It's not only great for you, the people who live here, but for our economy, too - giving our businesses the boost they need following the pandemic.

This is just one of the meaningful ways we are putting our residents and businesses first.

Congratulations to our Lionesses

Sunday's women's football achievement marked the end of a fantastic journey for our England Lionesses. A huge well done and congratulations from us all here.

The icing on the cake is that they have inspired many women and girls to take part in the beautiful game here in Harrow. I know many of you are asking how to get involved.

We work closely with Watford FC CSE Trust, which puts on girls-only Kicks! sessions at Whitmore High School, Prolock Avenue, on Mondays. Classes for primary school-aged children run 6-7pm and secondary school sessions are at 7-8pm.

You can email the organiser for more information.

Kids' holiday clubs with meals for those in need

Don't forget the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme is open to young people aged 4 to 16 who are eligible for free school meals (FSM).

Over the summer break, they can join the active and healthy club packed with engaging activities - from sports and arts to mental maths and storytelling. Every child receives a nutritious free meal every day.

Eligible children are also receiving FSM during the holidays as part of the Household Support Fund.

Harrow' s Heroes

We had more than 100 nominations for our flagship community awards - recognising those residents who make a difference to the lives of others.

As always, choosing a winner is tough because of the amazing things our nominees have done and continue to do. The judges have now had their say and finalists have been carefully selected.

Well done to every single person nominated and thank you for your kindness and generosity. Thank you also to everyone who took the time to nominate.

I am really looking forward to next month's awards ceremony and celebrating our Harrow's Heroes.
