New Covid-19 testing centre on Kenton Recreation Ground Car Park opens

Kenton rec car park testing centre

Walk-through coronavirus testing centre to open at car park and tennis courts.

A new walk-through testing centre, for those with Covid-19 symptoms, is to open on the car park and redundant tennis courts at Kenton Recreation Ground.

It will be accessible via Carlton Avenue and have associated temporary car parking.

With the transmission of Coronavirus remaining high in Harrow, it is vital that we take action locally to break the chain of infection. Our testing programme is critical to helping us reduce the number of cases and hospitalisations.

The Government is increasing the number of Covid-19 testing sites for local people. The plan is to have several testing sites in every borough in the country easily accessible to the local population.

The Kenton Rec testing centre will be open seven days a week, 8am to 8pm. Those needing a test should book in advance online at www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or by calling 119.

If you don’t show symptoms you can book a free test.

Strict safety control measures will be in place for those attending the test centre: face coverings must be worn, and social distancing followed at all times.

A 24-hour security team will be in place to guide people in and out of the test centre and to secure the site when it is closed.

The test centre will sit on the car park with modular buildings for the testing and staff facilities. Noise proofing will be installed with sound proofed fencing and quieter hybrid generators used so disruption to residents is kept to a minimum.

Cllr Graham Henson, Leader of Harrow Council, said:

“Cases are still high in Harrow as well as the rest of London – this new local testing centre is a vitally important part of our efforts to stop the spread of the virus and save lives.  I would urge everyone to get tested regularly to ensure the virus is not passed on to others”

Carole Furlong, Harrow Council’s Director of Public Health, said:

“We are pleased to add this essential new site to our existing testing capability.

“Testing is central to our efforts to control the spread of the virus, so if you or a family member experience any one of the symptoms, a new continuous cough, a high temperature or a change/loss in taste or smell, please self-isolate immediately and book a test. “We must all do our bit to help stop the spread so please continue to follow the hands, face, space mantra – wash your hands regularly, wear a face covering and make space to control the spread and reduce infection rates.”

Please continue to stay safe and follow the mantra: hands, face, space, ventilate – wash your hands regularly, wear a face covering, make space to control the spread and keep rooms well ventilated to help reduce infection rates.

If you experience any one of the symptoms, a new continuous cough, a high temperature or a change/loss in taste or smell, please self-isolate and book a test at www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or call 119.
