Celebrate VE Day at home and raise a toast to our WW2 Heroes!

75 year's ago the guns fell silent at the end of the war in Europe, and people went to the streets celebrate the arrival of peace in Europe.

On Friday 8 May, the nation marks the 75th Anniversary of VE day. Unfortunately this year's celebrations will be different due to the ongoing Covid-19 emergency. But it doesn’t stop us from marking this important day to pay tribute to our WW2 heroes whose sacrifices and courage allow us to enjoy the many freedoms we have today.

So what can you do t help mark the special milestone? Here's some things you can do at home and help us capture how Harrow is marking the 75th Anniversary.

Share your pictures and videos

Perhaps you're baking a special cake, painting a picture or putting bunting up outside your home. We want to see these and more! We want you to share what you're up to by tagging the council on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #VEDayHarrow

Raise a toast for our heroes - take part in our video montage

We’re putting together a montage of video messages from the people of Harrow to mark the 75th anniversary. Led by the Mayor of Harrow, it will be broadcast at 3pm on Friday 8 May. You can join in to by recording a short video raising a toast with a short message of thanks. Tag us on Twitter or Facebook and use the hashtag #VEDayHarrow and we’ll share these!

Two minutes' silence

At 11am on Friday 8 May, Harrow will fall silent to remember our fallen heroes – please join us in reflecting on the enormous sacrifice, courage and determination that took place at home here in the UK and abroad.
