Local businesses and entrepreneurs are invited to pitch their ideas for the chance to win a package of free professional support, as the Harrow Business Den competition is now open for entries.

The highly anticipated event, hosted by Harrow Council is now in its 7th year, and the final will take place in March, when finalists will pitch their business ideas to a panel of judges in a Dragon’s Den-style competition. One finalist will be crowned 2020 Business Den winner, earning a year’s worth of business support, from mentoring and training to publicity and a cash prize.

Cllr Keith Ferry, portfolio holder for business, planning and regeneration said:

“Starting a business is hard. I admire any business man or woman, that takes the leap of faith in starting their own business journey, it takes guts, discipline and determination.

“It is exciting and you’re always learning new things but there can be times when you can feel stuck, and that’s where we come in. The business support package will help you look at your business in a new light and find ways to re-energize and grow your business.”

The competition is open to all small or medium enterprises, start-ups and entrepreneurs. Whether you have a great business idea, want to expand, or simply want to test a new product.

Teresa Faley from Letterbox Brownies, 2019 Business Den winner said:

“I can’t believe it’s almost been a year since winning Harrow Business Den, time flies when you’re working hard - and having fun of course.

“I entered the competition because I thought it would be a good opportunity to raise the profile of my business and it has! The growth of Letterbox Brownies over the last year has been phenomenal. I’ve secured more orders, introduced subscription options and am on track to reaching my target of £18,000  turnover by April 2020. I’ve also received lots of business advice from my mentor and taken part in the recent business accelerator course where I have learned new skills.

“Plans for 2020 are to keep growing the business steadily - hopefully that means expanding the team this year and gaining more subscription customers.”

The deadline for Harrow Business Den entries is Monday 10 February.
