Harrow libraries order and collect service

As our high streets open back up, we know it’s hard to see our libraries still closed. We are every bit as impatient as you are to open up and welcome you back.

Not all of our services will be available and we will look a little different when we open.

For your safety all library stock will have been quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours before being made available and staff will wear gloves while selecting and packing your order.

In order to maintain social distancing libraries are not able to offer a full browsing service at this time.

Order and collect service

As a temporary measure Harrow Libraries will be offering an Order and Collect service for library members to request up to 10 items based on your reading preferences which will be selected by library staff on your behalf.

At this time we are only able to provide books that are currently in stock within Harrow. Once your order is ready to collect you will be contacted to arrange a convenient date and time to visit the library.

Initially orders can be collected from either Stanmore or Wealdstone Libraries.

Due to the popularity of our new service we cannot select particular titles as part of Order & Collect, however individual titles can be requested using the regular reservation process and you can place holds online from the library catalogue

Ready Reads

For customers who prefer not to pre-order stock library staff will prepare collections of 6 books that will be mixed fiction, genre fiction, popular subjects such as cookery, gardening, biographies, as well as collections of children’s books by age.

These will be in carrier bags and staff will have worn gloves while selecting titles. Library members are welcome take a lucky dip and grab a bag of books which can be issued in bulk at the kiosk.

Please note titles cannot be swapped for others – the intention is to borrow the entire surprise collection.

How to order

Orders can be placed by email or by telephone to either Pinner, Stanmore or Wealdstone Libraries. Where this is not possible orders can be placed in person at either branch

Please remember to give us your name, library membership number, contact telephone number and your preferences. We will do the rest.

Library staff are happy to accept requests for orders of up to 10 books which they will select based on your reading preferences.

You can provide a list of:

  • Preferred authors
  • Preferred genres
  • Subjects
  • Age ranges

For example you could ask for:

  • I would like 5 books and my favourite authors are …
  • I would like 5 crime novels
  • I would like 5 biographies, 2 books on gardening and 2 on cookery
  • I would like 5 books for a 7 year old
  • I would like 5 board books and 5 picture books

Staff will then select titles on your behalf, however please be aware there will be the possibility some may have been previously read.

When your order is ready for collection a member of library staff will contact you to arrange a convenient date and time slot for you to collect your items.

On arrival please show your library membership card. Your books will have been issued to your account prior to your arrival and ready for collection in carrier bags.

All library stock will have be quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours before being made available and staff will wear gloves while selecting and packing your order.
