Information about your council lease

Your lease

What is a lease?

A lease is the right to occupy and use a property for a fixed period of time. A lease does not give you ownership of the physical property or the ground that the property is on. It is a legally binding contract that sets out your rights and responsibilities as the leaseholder and ours as the landlord.

How do I get a copy of my lease?

You can obtain a copy of your lease by contacting Land Registry or the Council's Leasehold Service team. An administration fee applies for the Council to provide a copy.

A copy of the title plan can also be purchased from Land Registry. We strongly recommend that you keep a copy of the lease and title plan as they contain essential information for resolving disputes.
