Community champions

The Community Champions Scheme is a joint initiative between Harrow Council and the Metropolitan Police.

Although the Council and Police spend a great deal of time on street cleaning, street nuisance issues and anti-social behaviour, in reality they can't be everywhere all of the time.

This scheme is about getting the community involved to help highlight street level issues so something positive can be done about them; it's not about spying or informing on neighbours and other residents. They can report to us via:

  • our website
  • by email
  • by phone

Issues that need reporting are likely to be very minimal, because a Community Champion only covers a small area near their home (either their street, local open space, park etc).

There are no formal obligations to the role, and volunteers can do as little or as much as they like. So even if you are working or out of the house during the day, it's still a role you can do.

All new Community Champions are given:

  • an induction on the scope of the role
  • a free Welcome Resource Pack including a guidebook, folder and handy notebook and pen.

We'll keep you informed about the scheme through a quarterly newsletter and there will be opportunities to meet with local councillors and Police representatives throughout the year so you can share your views.

Why become a Community Champion?

There are lots of good reasons why you should become a Community Champion:

  • You can have a direct hand in getting things in your community fixed, cleaned up, made safer and better
  • You can quite literally help make Harrow's streets cleaner and safer
  • You have a say in your community
  • You will be helping the Council and Police deal with issues quickly and effectively
  • Enjoy being part of a team that makes a noticeable difference to the quality of life for local residents
  • It's a rewarding feeling to volunteer and do something that benefits the community.
