Letting agent forced to fix faulty property

Damp and mould

Harrow Council forced a letting agent to repair property let to a tenant in poor conditions.

A letting agent in Harrow finally got their act together when Harrow Council forced them to fix a property in severe disrepair – including damp and mould all over the walls and ceiling.

Environmental health officers were first made aware after a complaint from the tenant who had been living in awful conditions for nearly 6 months, affecting the tenant and her child’s mental health at the property in Pinner.

When officers investigated the complaint they found windows not secured properly and faulty internal doors. There was also widespread damp and mould growth all over the walls and ceiling in the bathroom and kitchen of the first floor 2 bedroom property caused by a water leak from a neighbouring property.

Cllr Graham Henson, cabinet member for environment said:

“Our job is to help tenants and landlords with their properties and take action against those flouting the rules and taking advantage. That’s what happened on this occasion. We weren’t taken by any of their excuses so we forced them to fix the property and what a huge difference it has made. We’ll do the same with anyone else operating like this.”

The agent has swiftly taken action following warnings from the council to get the property repaired and made safe.
