Community Matters Week raises a massive £2,340

The council’s IT service provider, Sopra Steria got right into the heart of the community last week when they hosted Community Matters Week.

Raising a massive £2,340 for the Mayor’s charities and MacMillan Cancer Support, the week-long event was organised by Sopra Steria to remind us of the vital role local charities play within our community.

Events included a gadget surgery at a local library, a marathon challenge, head shave, bake off sale and a wear it PINK day, with all events raising £1,340 and a generous £1,000 donation by Sopra Steria bringing the total to £2,340. The money raised will be split between The Mayor of Harrow, Cllr Margaret Davine’s charities, Harrow Women Centre and Harrow Law Centre and national charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Mayor of Harrow, Cllr Margaret Davine said: bake off winner

“Raising money for charities helps people who are in need of support and everyone should be proud of being part of this project and the positive impact it will have on the community. It’s been a fantastic week and we’ve all had great fun, thank you Sopra Steria”.

Community Matters Week is a great opportunity to say a big thank you as despite the huge pressures local charities face that doesn’t stop volunteers from working hard and looking after some of our most vulnerable people in the borough.

Head shavers and mayor 2Steve Mulcahy, Client Director from Sopra Steria said:

“It’s been a fantastic week at Harrow where both Sopra Steria and Harrow Council employees have demonstrated their belief in social value and have come together for the good of the community. I’m thrilled by the level of participation and support by everyone involved including the Mayor and Mayoress of Harrow who were fantastic in their involvement.  Best of all, and on top of the enjoyment we’ve experienced, we raised a large amount of money for the Mayor’s Charities and MacMillan Cancer Support.  We’re all super proud and can’t wait until the next year’s events”

The marathon challenge which was split up into multiple legs of difference distances was won by Team Sopra Steria and the winner of the bake off challenge was Bernie Harrison with her delicious brownies. In the Head Shave event, Kanti Halai and Mark Snow both had their heads shaved in support of MacMillan Cancer Support.
