Yesterday, a record number of parks and green spaces collect Green Flag Award including five Harrow parks

Five of our much loved parks have been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as one of the very best in the world.

Roxeth Recreation Ground, Canons Park, Harrow Recreation Ground, Pinner Memorial Park and Kenton Recreation Ground were among a record-breaking 1,797 UK parks and green spaces that received the prestigious Green Flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space which boasts beautifully maintained open space and excellent facilities.

Cllr Graham Henson, cabinet member for environment said:

“Our parks and open spaces are loved and enjoyed by all our residents and we are absolutely delighted that five of our parks once again received Green Flag Awards.

“I’d like to thank all volunteers and staff who have worked extremely hard to keep our parks and open spaces to a high standard so that they can be enjoyed and used by everyone.”

This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.

International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said:

“We are delighted to be celebrating another record-breaking year for the Green Flag Award scheme.

“Each flag is a celebration of the thousands of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award. The success of the scheme, especially in these challenging times, demonstrates just how much parks matter to people.”
