Greenwich Leisure Ltd to run Harrow’s leisure centres

Harrow Council’s Cabinet last night (Thursday 17th March) agreed to award the contract for the management of its leisure facilities to Greenwich Leisure Ltd for the next two years.
Greenwich Leisure Ltd (GLL), which operates as a social enterprise and has charitable status, has a proven track record of delivering quality leisure services and currently manages over 90 other local authority facilities.
The new two year contract is scheduled to deliver over £800,000 of savings for the Council and will commence in the late Spring. The company has also pledged to improve services and increase usage and membership at Harrow Leisure Centre, Hatch End Pool and Bannisters Sports Centre.
Portfolio Holder for Property and Major Contracts at Harrow Council, Cllr Thaya Idaikkadar, said:
"To protect the services our residents rely on as we cope with huge government cuts, we are exploring every opportunity to save money or provide services differently.
"That includes scrutinising all of our major contracts to make sure we are getting the very best services and value for money for our residents.
"We were very impressed by Greenwich Leisure Ltd's bid. We will be expecting them to drive improvement to services and to encourage more residents to take advantage of their local leisure centre.
"A team of officers has worked very hard to ensure improved quality and increased income for the Council over the next two years which, in the current financial climate, will be a great result."
