Secondary school place offers sent out

Eighty seven percent of Harrow pupils have been offered a place at one of their top three preferred secondary schools.

Last October 2,436 parents of Harrow children in year six applied for a place at up to six secondary schools, and on Tuesday they were told which school they had been allocated a place at.

1,612 - or 66% - were offered their first choice school and 94% were offered a place at one of their six preferred schools.

Every single Harrow pupil has been offered a place to start at secondary school in September.

Portfolio Holder for Schools and Colleges on Harrow Council Cllr Brian Gate, said:

"Harrow's schools are among the best in London so demand is always high for the places available. On top of that, rising birth rates and an influx of people into the capital are causing a further rise in applications, as every borough in London can testify.

"Every secondary school in Harrow is judged 'good' or 'outstanding' by Ofsted, so all of our pupils have been offered a first class school place. This year we received 2,436 applications, and while it's not possible to offer everyone their first choice, we make every effort to ensure pupils can attend one of their preferred schools."

Across London 87% of pupils were offered a place at one of their top three schools and 65% were offered a place at their first choice. 93% were offered a place at one of their six preferences.
