Let’s Talk, says Harrow Council

Published 1st November 10

HARROW Council's leader took the town hall to the people when he set up a pop-up living room in Harrow town centre and invited shoppers for a chat.

The event last Thursday (28th October), was the start of a new campaign launched by Harrow Council called Let's Talk, that will directly involve residents in decisions about its spending and priorities.

In the face of government cuts in funding, the Council wants to listen to residents, using their views to plan for the years ahead and make the tough decisions needed to balance the books.

The Leader of Harrow Council, Cllr Bill Stephenson and his cabinet colleagues will take the living room on a tour of the borough throughout November to have a conversation with the public about council services and the impact of the government's cuts.

Cllr Stephenson said:

"Government cuts are shocking many people in our borough with thousands worrying about how their families and community will be affected and how they will be able to cope.

"That is why we are going out to listen to what people have to say. What they tell us will have a direct impact on the decisions we make.

"We know in Harrow people genuinely want to get more involved, but often lack the time or haven't ever been asked before. We hope our Let's Talk campaign will be an opportunity for open public debate about our priorities for the future.

"The eye-catching, pop-up living rooms are a new way of involving residents, spreading the word about how we are changing and giving people real influence over the decisions we make."

The five Let's Talk roadshows will run from 12noon to 4pm on the following dates:

Saturday, 6 November - South Harrow (opposite the Tube Station)

Saturday, 13 November, - Harrow Town Centre

Saturday, 20 November - Rayners Lane

Thursday, 25 November - Stanmore

Saturday, 27 November - Harrow Town Centre

People can also take part in the debate online and find out other ways to get involved at www.harrow.gov.uk/letstalk
