Electric car charging points for Harrow
Published 11th August 10
ELECTRIC car charging points for eco-friendly motorists could soon be available in Harrow.
The charge or 'Plug-in' points that are currently available at locations in central London, are set to be introduced to the borough with plans to install a charging point at Harrow's Civic Centre this year.
The first ever charge point in the borough will be located at the council offices, giving motorists visiting the local authority HQ the opportunity to charge up their electric cars on-site. For others, it will be an opportunity to see the eco-charge facility first hand.
Portfolio holder for Environment and Community Safety, Cllr. Philip O'Dell said:
"Harrow Council is among a number of outer London boroughs that are
leading the way in supporting greener vehicles in a bid to help improve
air quality and protect our environment. Through installing the charging point in a more visible location at our site, we are sending a clear message to visitors and staff that we support electric vehicles and are keen to see their use expanded. This an exciting initiative for the council."
Harrow Council is one of a number of outer London boroughs that are currently leading the way in this area, with the aim of strengthening the number and usage of car charging points.
The proposed charge-up point is intended to be part of the Mayor of London's 'Plugged in Places' initiative which aims to 'electrify' London and offer members of the scheme the option to charge their vehicle at various locations across London.
