Harrow Council shortlisted for Most Improved Council award

Published 24th December 09

Harrow Council is in the running to win an award for Most Improved Council of the Year by a local government magazine.

The Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards 2010 has nominated Harrow as one of five council's shortlisted in the category, Most Improved Council of the Year.  The winning local authority is due to be announced in 24 March 2010.

This result follows from local government watchdog, the Audit Commission, judging Harrow Council to one of just a handful of local authorities across the UK to have improved against their new tougher regime.

Harrow now has an overall score of three out of four (the council was previously scored at two) and is described as performing well.

Cllr David Ashton, leader of the council, said: "This is an excellent result and shows that Harrow is getting better."

Michael Lockwood, Chief Executive of the council, added: "Could I take the opportunity to thank staff for the hard work and commitment over the last year, without which, this result would not have been achieved."
