New scam for council tax payers

Published 3rd December 09

Council tax payers may now be the victims of a new telephone scam. Callers are falsely claiming that people are entitled to a council tax rebate.

Many households have received  telephone calls claiming to be from the valuation agency or council officials and are asking for credit card or bank details so that they can refund the rebate or take a one-off administration fee.

The valuation office will never ask for your financial details.  If you have any doubt about a call from the council tax office, please call us direct on 020 8424 1670 or write to us via our online enquiries form.
