Council offers pensioners energy advice
Published 18th February 09
With the winter really setting in, it has never been more important for pensioners to keep their heating turned up to stay warm.
In an attempt to make sure over 60s are not turning down their thermostat too much to save money through the credit crunch, Harrow Council is offering free home visits to offer tips and advice on the energy grants available.
The grants, which are set to help residents in the borough make energy-saving improvements to their home, will help vulnerable residents in the borough to keep their homes warm through the winter.
A dedicated affordable warmth caseworker is offering free visits to their homes to discuss the options available to them.
Councillor Susan Hall, portfolio holder for environmental services, said: "So many people in the borough are entitled to grants that they may not know about.
"The service aims to offer support to vulnerable people in the borough. The cold can have detrimental effects on older people, so it is vital they stay warm through the cold months."
