Council tax rise equivalent to a litre of milk extra per week

Harrow Council is set to confirm plans this week for a 2.95% council tax rise that means for the average band D taxpayer an extra £33 per year or 64p each week.
If agreed at the Cabinet meeting this Thursday and then approved at the full council meeting on 21st February, the average Band D householder will now pay £1,463.80 from 1st April. This includes the Greater London Authority Precept that presently stands at £311.25.
Councillor David Ashton, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Finance said: "This sends out a strong message that we will deliver on our promise to keep council tax as low as possible.
"We are working hard to keep residents bills down by cutting waste, making savings and targeting money at the areas you tell us are the most important. By saving £10m next year and without having to make any significant cuts in services, we can keep the average rise to the taxpayer down to 64p a week or the price of a litre of milk."
